Brentwood Elementary Student Rights and Responsibilities
I HAVE THE RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO LEARN IN A SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT:
  • I am respectful during assemblies, special presentations, field trips and celebrations.
  • I do my homework neatly and bring it to school on time.
  • I pay attention in class.
  • I work quietly and do not disturb my classmates.
  • I always try to do my best.
  • I arrive on time for class.
I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE RESPECTED AND TO BE TREATED WITH DIGNITY:
  • I am polite to everyone (students and adults).
  • I am honest with others.
  • I use appropriate language (no swearing).
  • I do not hit, push or spit on others.
  • I do not throw or kick snow, rocks etc.
  • I am quiet and orderly in the hallways.
  • I listen when someone is speaking.
  • I do not play fight.
  • I do not bully others.
  • I treat others with respect.
  • I will try to help if I see someone being bullied.
  • I will try to include people who are being left out.
  • I do not make fun of, or tease others.
  • I dress appropriately in accordance with the school dress code. I do not wear a hat, gloves, or inappropriate clothing or jewelry.
I HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO RESPECT PROPERTY:
  • I keep my hands to myself.
  • I do not “borrow” without asking.
  • I look after things that belong to me and things that belong to others.
I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE:
  • I walk calmly in the hallways and avoid physical contact with others.
  • I wear shoes in the school at all times.
  • I wear running shoes for gym classes.
  • I remain on school property during all recesses except when I ask permission from the supervisor.
  • I play safely on the playground equipment and only when it is my turn.
  • I stop playing and line up immediately when the bell rings.
  • I stand quietly in line while waiting to come in, with no pushing or unnecessary noise.
  • I follow school bus safety rules and pedestrian safety rules coming to and going home from school..
  • I do not ride my bike, skateboard, scooter, or use my roller-blades or roller-shoes on the school grounds.
I HAVE THE RIGHT TO LEARN IN A SAFE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT:
  • I keep the schoolyard clean, always throwing garbage in the garbage cans.
  • I remove my boots or outdoor shoes upon entering the school.
  • I do not misuse the washrooms/change rooms.
  • I take good care of school materials.
  • I keep my desk, locker and classroom clean and tidy.
  • I always enter and exit the school through my assigned door.
  • I have a clean and orderly appearance.
  • I do not bring dangerous things to school.
